 Week 32: April 22-26

Animal Project

Projects are due tomorrow.  We look forward to seeing the creative work of our Firsties at home.

Upcoming Dates:

We have A LOT going on between now and the end of the school year. Following is an overview of some First Grade-specific activities that we are looking forward to, many of which we could use help with. At the end you will find one big sign up sheet. Thanks for considering!

Wednesday, May 1

Sarett Nature Center Field Trip: Students will ride the bus to the nature center where we will have a presentation with naturalists and a nature walk followed by a picnic lunch. Students will need to bring lunch from home or order a box lunch from the school in advance. Order forms came home last week.  Some of the forms did not have a spot to mark home lunch. Please let your child’s teacher know if your Firstie will bring lunch from home. School box lunches will be ordered for anyone who doesn’t return a form. Parents are welcome to join us at the Nature Center. There is a fee for parents upon arrival. In the past it has been $5.

Wednesday, May 22

Courtyard Games: Firsties will enjoy some time in our lovely courtyard enjoying various activities such as corn hole, hoola hoops, bubble machines, and giant Jenga. We are looking for a parent to coordinate this.

Thursday, May 23

Kiwanis Park Day: We will walk as a grade level to Kiwanis Park. We will leave Lincoln School at 9:00am and leave the park for the return trip at 11:40. We will need a couple of parents to join us on the walk. Parents are also welcome to join us at Kiwanis. We will need snack and drink donations brought to us during our play time.

Friday, May 24

Tie dye day: We will be making shirts to be worn on altogether on the last day of school. We will need supplies and helpers to make this a success! Please send in a shirt (old or new) for your Firstie no later than May 21.

Tuesday, May 28

Pizza Day: We will have a pizza party on the afternoon of our last full day of school. We are asking each family to contribute $2 to cover the costs. We would also appreciate having a pizza coordinator for the grade level.

Thursday, May 30

Beach ball blow up surprise for Firsties: on the last day of school, May 31, we will have a beach ball signing party outside. We would LOVE your help the afternoon before getting all the balls blown up!

Phew! That’s everything we have planned so far! Please check out this signup sheet.

Week 29

Week 28: March 18-22

Pajama Party

This is it! The big 1st grade performance is THIS WEDNESDAY!

*Please plan to have your firstie at St. Joe high school by 4:45. The children have worked very hard on their performance. We are so proud of them!

*Students should wear pajamas to school on Wednesday and for the show that night.

Animal Project

We have been working on researching and studying animals in class. Please ask your Firstie all about this. They should be able to tell you their animal’s name, details about its appearance, habitat, and family. It has been a bit tricky in some cases to find out if certain animals live in groups, what babies are called, how long they live with their mothers (if at all), and so forth. We would love for you to discuss this with your Firstie and maybe do some reading together at home. In class we will be writing an informational report.  As a way to demonstrate their learning, we ask each student to create a project at home.

*Projects are due Monday, April 15.

Please select one of the following to make together with your Firstie:

  • Diorama

  • Model

  • Poster

Projects should:

  • Include accurate details

  • Show effort

  • Demonstrate understanding of the animal and habitat

Please use whatever materials you would like.  If supplies are an issue, please let your child’s teacher know and we will provide materials to create a poster.  Completed projects will be on display at school for about a week before being returned home.
